At the heart of Devil's Canyon lies a deep commitment to preserving our planet for generations to come. We've been on this journey for our lifetime, and our milestones are not just achievements but a testament to our unwavering dedication to sustainability.
Our waste reduction initiatives have revolutionized how we manage resources. We've dramatically cut waste sent to landfills through innovative recycling and composting programs. Devil's Canyon is a symbol of sustainable waste management in our industry. |
From Gear to BeerDevil's Canyon won San Mateo County's Business of the Year award for our Culture of Reutilization Ethic. From gear to beer, we aim to leave zero carbon footprint. Our crew, partners and friends work with us in this endeavor. We use many materials destined for landfill in our facility; we reclaimed, upcycled and installed old growth redwood panelling in the Tasting Room, our firepits were handmade onsite from salvaged stainless steel, several machines and pumps in the brewhouse were salvaged, refurbished onsite and used daily. Items we acquire and can't use onsite are donated locally. We believe we can build anything and waste nothing.

Onewater BrewWe partnered with San Francisco based company, Epic Cleantec to brew a Kölsch Style Ale using recycled water which was filtered and purified using their OneWater System. The beer and purification tech were named a TIME best invention of 2023 and listed in Fast Company's 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards. This project, though experimental, proved that recycled water is just as good, if not better, than the regular water we use every day. As word spread of this pioneering process, we have been featured on Newsnation, NBC Bay Area, as well as most recently, Waterfall Podcast. During this podcast, our founder Chris Garrett breaks down the water issue at hand and what the creation of Epic Onewater Brew could mean for the future of sustainable brewing.
We don't use recycled water in our regular brews, but as we help pioneer cutting edge technology and work legislatively to open the door for broader recycled water use, the future looks promising for water conservation through innovation. |

Grain to FarmOur friends at local Pomponio Ranch raise cattle and heritage pigs using an innovative holistic grazing method; they've restored hundreds of acres of over-grazed pastureland. Devil's Canyon donates finished grain to the ranch, helping supplement livestock feed with top quality barley. According to Pomonio, "Raised Better Tastes Better".

Pure EnergyIn 2015, we partnered with Pure Energy Group and installed an anaerobic waste digestion system capable of converting all the waste from the brewing process to usable power. The first system of its kind, the IBR Digester was installed and put to use for the first time at Devil's Canyon. The brewery provided a testing ground for this technology and helped pave the way for international use. Although the system is no longer on site an in use at the brewery, it was a first-of-its-kind test, and Pure Energy's modular systems are in use across multiple agriculture and food/beverage industries today.
